Engage: The Visa debit card available with Central Credit Union

As a member of Central Credit Union you can open an Engage account. There are two types of Engage accounts available: Classic and Smartcash (for children and teenagers).

What is Engage?

Engage is a fair and ethical digital account and contactless Visa debit card that works just like a high street current account, but with no hidden fees or unexpected costs. This account is for our members over the age of 16.

Engage is a convenient and rewarding alternative to a traditional bank account. You can receive regular funds, such as wages, benefits, or a loan from your the credit union, into your Engage account, giving you instant access to your money without the risks or hassle of carrying cash.

The Classic account

  • No fees to set up and just £2.30 a month management fee
  • No cost to make a purchase within the UK

  • Earn cashback rewards on everyday shopping and services

*99p fee for UK ATM withdrawals and 75p fee for cash withdrawals at a Post Office.

The Smartcash account

 

Smartcash is a digital account and Visa debit card that helps children and teenagers learn healthy financial habits and the importance of money management. It provides kids and teens with a safe stepping-stone towards full financial independence. Smartcash is exclusively for 8–16-year-old credit union members.

The Engage Smartcash account is free for the child or teenager and is linked to a parent or carer’s paid for Engage account and debit card. Each account is provided with parental monitoring and safe limits on cash withdrawals and daily spending.

Each Smartcash account comes with:

  • Junior digital mobile banking app
  • Parental authorisation and control
  • Contactless Debit Card with safe spending/withdrawal limits
  • A “Save” feature to let pocket money be sent to a savings account, teaching kids and teens to save
  • A ‘request pocket money’ feature from parents or carers, ability to receive cash gifts or wages from a part-time job
  • Cashback rewards
  • Free to load money from parents’ account via bank transfer or standing order.
  • No management fees or costs for purchases made within the UK.

How to get your Engage Visa debit card

  1. Decide which Engage account is best for you – Classic, Premium or SmartCash
  2. Speak to a member of staff for our unique code – these codes differ depending on whether you’re opening a Classic or Smartcash account)
  3. Download the Engage app via the App Store or Google Play
  4. Complete your application (this is where the unique code is important). Please ensure you have either your passport, driving licence or EU Identity card handy when you begin your registration on the app.

With Engage your funds are always 100% safe. The Engage Account and Visa debit card is available exclusively to members via our network of Credit Union and community banking partners in the UK. Engage is issued by Contis Financial Services Ltd who is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 (Firm Reference Number: 900025) to issue e-money and is a member of Visa.
