Treating Customers Fairly: we won

We’re the Treating Customers Fairly Champion!

Central Liverpool Credit Union is delighted to have scooped an award at last night’s Consumer Credit Awards ceremony.

The 30-year-old savings and loans co-operative won the Treating Customers Fairly Champion category.

And this was against tough competition, including other credit unions. And national peer to peer lender, RateSetter.

“My colleagues work so hard and unstintingly to provide a service to our members that goes above and beyond expectations. They have particularly surpassed themselves during the last few months of disruption associated with Covid-19.

I am always so proud of what they achieve and collectively they are a force to be reckoned with. So, it is particularly rewarding that they receive external recognition for the work they do. But more so that it was our membership who cast their vote in the awards.” Eileen Halligan, CEO

A community service for L8 and beyond

The Credit Union has been a community force in L8 for three decades.  The Head Office is in Park Street in the Riverside ward.

“I am delighted but not surprised that our Credit Union has won this award. They’ve been serving local residents for three decades and always given a fair deal with care and consideration.” Steve Munby, Councillor for Riverside ward

Continuing support during Covid-19

Despite the difficulties Coronavirus brings, and having to temporarily close two branches, the Credit Union has been as active as ever during the pandemic.

Last month it released its Covid-19 Impact Report.

£8 in every £10 lent between March and May helped people meet Coronavirus related expenses.

This is especially important in Riverside. 1/3 of people over 40 have a pre-existing health condition requiring self-isolation. Respiratory mortality is the highest in Liverpool.

“Our local credit union are truly deserving of this award. They are at the heart of our community and do a great job supporting all those who live and work within it. I’m happy to hear that they are being recognised for the brilliant work they do. Well done to the team!”Sarah Doyle, Councillor Riverside ward

Savings and loans for the whole City Region

Of course, the Credit Union’s work extends beyond Riverside. CLCU covers the whole of the City Region.

More than 75% of loans were granted to people living in the top 20% most deprived neighbourhoods in the country.

But no one can borrow unless they agree to save. Consequently local residents have amassed more than £8m in their savings accounts.

£7 in every £10 is held by a household located in the top 10% most deprived neighbourhoods in England.
